DIY Coffee-Clearing Coffe Scrub

People call me skinny but when I tell them I have cellulite, they find it hard to believe. Yes folks, cellulite can also affect skinny people, especially those who have recently lost weight. I dread cellulite and often find myself scouring the web for homemade remedies for them icky dimples.

One of the effective remedies I found was dry brushing and I bought myself a dry brush which I should be using every day but ugh, laziness. Another remedy I am more partial to is body scrubs! Man I love those delicious smelling beauty products and when I started making my own, it was heaven!

Body scrubs, just like dry brushing help get rid of cellulite by promoting blood circulation and stimulating flow of lymph, which both help toxins and wastes move along to the sites of elimination, preventing them from getting stuck in one place. Proper movement of lymph also prevents old fat cells from solidifying and forming cellulite which happens when the surrounding skin loses its elasticity. In this post, I’m going to show you guys how to make a coffee scrub for cellulite. Mmmm, who in this world doesn’t love the smell of fresh coffee?!

What makes coffee a special ingredient for cellulite you ask? Read on:

Coffee is super hyped as a powerful cellulite-clearer and I believe in its powers! It is a strong antioxidant which makes it incredibly good for protecting skin from cell degenerating free-radicals. It also reduces the puffiness related to cellulite by helping drain out excess fluid retention. Caffeine, the star ingredient in coffee is said to stimulates dilation. Scrubbing coffee on your skin increases circulation and plumps up skin which reduces the appearance and texture of cellulitic skin. PLUS it’s said to boost collagen production, which is the icing on the cake for me! I’m all up for more collagen and supple skin!

How to Make a Coffee Scrub for Cellulite
The ingredients needed are listed below! Liquid coconut oil is my fav base oil for body scrubs because it’s super penetrative and leaves skin non-greasy. Choose any type of sugar you want to use but I go with sugar in the raw or raw sugar which has a mild abrasive texture that won’t hurt your skin when scrubbing. The cinnamon powder stimulates blood circulation, invigorates flabby skin and adds a spicy touch to this delicious smelling coffee scrub!

Ingredients Needed
  • 1 cup of organic coffee grounds
  • ½ cup of raw sugar
  • ½ cup of liquid coconut oil
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 2 vitamin E capsules (powerful antioxidant to prevent spoilage)
Directions
  1. Collect all the ingredients you need.
  2. Get a large clean and dry bowl and add all the ingredients starting with the sugar, coffee, cinnamon powder and finally the coconut oil. To add the vitamin E oil, puncture the capsules with a large safety pin then squeeze out the oil into the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Using a clean and dry spoon, mix the ingredients thoroughly to form a mixture with an abrasive texture.
  4. Your homemade coffee scrub for cellulite is ready!
  5. All you have to do is carefully transfer the scrub into a clean and dry glass container.
  6. Store in a cool and dry place.
My Tips
  • You can also add a bit of vanilla extract for a more delicious scent!
  • Or want to add essential oils? You can use sweet orange for a citrusy coffee scrub or peppermint for a minty one but I recommend using cellulite-busting essential oils like these ones. Essential oils also help prolong the shelf life of this coffee scrub.
  • Do not get water into the mixture as this will rapidly spoil it. Keep it water-free and use dry fingers to scoop some out of the jar.
  • If you want to make a larger batch or aren’t going to be using it frequently in the shower, I suggest you store it in the refrigerator for safety otherwise you might forget about it and come back to find it spoiled.
How to Use this Coffee Scrub for Cellulite
My best way to use this coffee scrub is by placing a suitable amount (like 1 tbsp – or less: I once took 2 tbsp and ended up using it for my whole body) in a bowl then taking the bowl with me to the shower. After wetting my skin, I scoop some of the scrub and vigorously rub it in circular motions on my cellulitic areas. After that, I rinse off with warm water then lather up with soap. Since we’re using liquid coconut oil, don’t worry about it solidifying in the pipes and clogging up your drains.

How Long Does it Take to See Results?
I can’t tell but my guess is pretty soon since I’m also doing other remedies (listed below). So just continue using it regularly in the shower WHILE doing other remedies like:
  • Dry brushing. Dry brush your whole body lightly with a soft vegetable-bristle dry brush every day before your shower to promote circulation and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
  • Doing a number of squats every day. This workout is designed to target cellulite-prone areas like your butt and side of upper thighs, tightening and toning them. There are so many squat challenges out there – I suggest browsing Pinterest – just search ‘squat challenge’ then choose one you like and stick to it religiously!
  • Drinking enough water throughout your day. Never underestimate the power of this refreshing drink, folks! Water is truly cleansing and helps push out toxins and waste that can clump up and form cellulite. I’m not saying drink a gallon everyday – no, that can even be dangerous for you. I just mean drink enough and don’t let yourself get dehydrated ever.
  • Massaging those areas. When you’re applying your body oil/lotion after a shower, take some time to deeply massage your cellulitic areas for about 2 minutes to promote proper circulation. It really helps when you do it every day to break apart the old fat cells that form those dreaded dimples.
